How to add a hidden zipper to a design template

Want to add a hidden zipper to your design template? Here's how.

What is a hidden zipper?

A hidden zipper is a zipper with very fine teeth. It's sewn into a garment in such a way that it makes the zipper invisible, hidden in a seam.

We can distinguish two types of zippers: the invisible (or hidden) zipper and the visible (or exposed) zipper.

  1. A visible zipper sits on top of your garment. Exposed zippers are set into garment areas without seams.
  2. A hidden zipper is a zipper with very fine teeth. It's sewn into a garment in such a way that it makes the zipper invisible, hidden in a seam. The only part left visible is the pull tab, and that tends to be smaller than other types of zippers. Unlike a regular zipper, when sewing in an invisible zipper, the seam is sewn after the invisible zipper is sewn.

When a hidden zipper is added to the center front of a garment, it creates the appearance of a seamless piece of cloth. This is particularly important when adding graphics or text.

Once you have familiarized yourself with the concept of designs, you are now ready to include a hidden zipper in your design template.

For the hidden zipper, you first need to split the front panel of your pattern in two. This means, you need to split up all the artwork (graphics or text). In other words, if you have a graphic or a text covering the zipper, you will need to have this graphics and text split up in two pieces, one for each side of the zipper.

Why is it important to truncate your artwork? Brikl's software needs to create a print output file that has the two panels separated.

Below is an example of an incorrect hidden zipper design template. The front panel graphics are all merged together into one block.

In the Brikl 3D configurator, the hidden zipper will not be rendered correctly an incorrect print output file will be generated.
